This give-away is now closed. Thanks to all who participated and shared your "first-aid" stories and needs. The winner of the Deluxe First-Aid Kit is...
Christa of Country Hearts At Home!
Congratulations! Please email me your address when you are able.
Summer is upon us and now is the perfect time to make sure your first-aid supplies are in order and ready to go for all the outdoor activities that your family will be enjoying. Organizing your kit will prepare you for unexpected emergencies that might arise, often when you least expect it.
If you don't have medical emergency supplies organized in one, grab-and-go kit, you should consider doing so as soon as possible. You want it to be portable so that you can take it to whatever location is needed on the spur of the moment. And if you ever need to evacuate in case of fires, floods, or other emergencies, having it in one organized container will allow you to take it with you.
This is also a good time to annually check that it's well stocked and medications inside are fresh. Too often first aid kits get neglected and antibiotic creams, burn medications, and other items expire, but are never replaced. And don't forget those bandages that notoriously run low and aren't in good supply when you need one. Just last week I went through my own kit and found it sadly neglected. Over the year it had been used more than I realized and little remained that was useable. Two days after I refreshed it, I cut myself pretty deep with a kitchen knife, came down with a light case of impetigo, and managed to get a bunch of bug bites. Everything I needed was there, but had I neglected it, everything would have been expired or used up.
Is it just me, or does it seem that infections that get out of control are on the rise? Delaying could put you or a family member at risk. Even a small cut can quickly become infected. Perhaps early treatment could deter this from happening. If you don't have a first-aid kit, make it your goal to have one by the end of the week.
To help you out, USA Emergency Supply has graciously donated one of their Deluxe First Aid Kits for today's give-away to a Homestead Revival reader! As authorized distributors of American Red Cross supplies and first-aid kits, they have just about everything you could ever need for your first response medical needs.
1. Visit USA Emergency Supply and look through their first-aid section (see the tab at the top of their site in the tan section, just under the maroon banner). Come back, comment below, and tell me what kit you would like to have, some kind of item that you would add to your existing first-aid kit, or some item they have that you have not considered including, but would in the future.
2. Blog about this give-away and you may add a another separate comment to be entered a second time. Everyone needs to be reminded to have these supplies on hand! Let's spread the word.
Drawing ends Friday, June 4, 2010 at 12:00 noon PST.
I hope your summer is a safe one!
