Anke over at Our Little Piece of Heaven had a great idea for keeping all her salad dressing supplies corralled in one place and this inspired me to do the same. Instead of a lazy-susan like Anke's, I just used a basket to hold all my oils, vinegars, and such for dressings. I can simply pull it out of the pantry and then easily return the basket after making up the dressing. When I get my recipes, I plan to put them on laminated 3 x 5 cards with a ring and stick them in the side of the basket. Simple? I think so.
But now I need some recipes. Perhaps you have a really great one and you'd like a few more? Participate in this Salad Dressing Recipe Exchange and we'll all be happily making our own dressings in a jiffy. Give me your best, gals!

Salad Dressing Recipe Exchange:
1. Write a blog post with a favorite salad dressing recipe and if you'd like, include the salad recipe as well, if there is one.
2. Include this button on your post - for Mac's just drag it to your desktop and then upload. I need a PC person to tell us how to do it for the PC users!
3. Copy the URL of your post and come back here and add it to the Linky below along with your photo. If you don't have a recipe photo, you can include your profile photo or a photo from your header.
I can hardly wait to see what kind of salad dressing recipes you'll post!

I posted an older blog entry for right now. I have another one to write, yet.
ReplyDeleteAmy, I'm 'dressed' for another recipe! I love these recipe exchanges.. I'm going to really think about this one. I bet I make my own so regularly that I don't even think it's special! Other than the good ole' Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar one!
ReplyDeleteHi Amy,
ReplyDeletehere is the link to the post about the salad dressing. http://cox-himmel.blogspot.com/2010/03/how-mom-used-to-do-it.html
Thanks for asking me about it and letting me know.
I like how you keep your supplies in a basket, it looks very pretty. I'm also going to copy your idea of keeping some laminated recipes nearby. That would really help my youngest if she wants to make some salad dressing.
Have a great day,
Anke
What a great idea, Amy! I linked to a post I wrote this past summer that included two dressing that use honey instead of sugar. I hope you try and like them. Blessings to you, friend.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea! Making my own dressing is on my to-do list...but I haven't gotten to it yet.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see all of the recipes!
Love the idea of keeping the recipes on cards. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! I love the basket idea. I may have to do that myself. I have a recipe or two I can share. Mostly just vinaigrettes. If I don't write a post about it, I will just send it to you :)
ReplyDeleteIt seems the best recipes are generally simple; love your basket idea and plan on using it once we return home.
ReplyDeleteOh great topic! I'm always on the look out for a good salad dressing. Usually I mix equal amounts of balsamic vinegar and peanut butter for a quick and tasty salad dressing.
ReplyDeleteHeather, I would never have thought to combine balsamic vinegar and PB, but since I'm a huge fan of both, this is sure to be awesome!
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone for the links and recipes!
Balsamic Vinegar and Peanut Butter? OH! I'm in love with the sound of it! I'm going to try that! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteNot a blogger but thought I'd just post a comment, I use 1T orange marmalade, 2T balsamic vinegar, 1T olive oil and 1tsp of tamari sauce or soy sauce. Yum! Double to triple and you have a great marinade for grilled chicken - just be sure to reduce remaining marinade for a sauce on top while chicken is cooking.
ReplyDeleteI hope it's OK, but I put up a link to a recent post about making vinegar. It's so absurdly easy, and so essential to the best salad dressings (and a million other things) that I thought it might be of interest. To make up for my brazen flouting of the rules, here's my go-to recipe:
ReplyDeleteOlive oil, homemade red wine vinegar, a bit of dijon mustard, one minced clove of garlic (microplaned is good) plus salt and pepper. Whisk, pour, toss, and commence eye-rolling.
I don't have a recipe, but I'm really glad you're posting this, because I'd love to have some!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to reading the entries
Blessings, Anne (in Scotland) x
Great idea to host a salad dressing exchange! Homemade dressings are SO much better than store bought ones. We could use some new ideas-thanks!
ReplyDeleteI got this recipe from a friend, who got it out of Southern Living Magazine a while ago.
ReplyDeleteRASPBERRY VINEGARETTE
1/3 cup Red Raspberry vinegar, 1/4 cup sugar, 2 tsp Digon mustard, 1 garlic clove, 1/2 tsp freshly ground pepper, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/2 c Vegetable oil. Process first 6 ingredients until smooth. While still processing, add oil in a slow, steady stream. Add 2 TBS chopped fresh Basil. Use on Romaine lettuce. Top with fresh red raspberries or orange segments, diced fresh tomatores, toasted pecans, goat or feta cheese, bacon pieces. Soooo good!
Hi Amy! It's the other Amy Walker! What a lovely blog! Can't wait to see more! Thanks for stopping by. I'm excited about this recipe exchange. Thanks so much for letting me know. I'm about to link up!
ReplyDeleteI saw that Hallee Homemaker, the one I got the Ranch dressing recipe from already linked that up so I linked up our other favorite! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is my first visit to your blog...I love it!
ReplyDeleteWelcome, Vicki and to all of you who are new here!!
ReplyDeleteI'm loving these recipes! In fact, I've already written them all down on index cards so we can start right away. These are going to be TERRIFIC!
Hi Amy,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I stopped by to see all these yummy salad recipes. I normally just make a dressing of dijon mustard, balsamic vinegar (sometimes fresh lemon juice instead), garlic, and olive oil. I use this for salad, coleslaw and to marinate meat with..
Thanks for stopping by my blog, Jo's Health Corner
This isn't my recipe, but the canning blog Food in Jars (http://www.foodinjars.com/) had a nice post with a recipe for salad dressing using homemade jams. I thought it sounded very nice!

Oh - that Tangerine Thyme dressing sounds good but I couldn't find it on the website. Something like Satsuma Spearmint might be really good too.
ReplyDeleteRR, If I remember correctly, when you get to her blog, do a search on the right sidebar for Tangerine Thyme and it will take you to it.
ReplyDeleteYum! I have a really great ranch recipe, but I'm still tweaking it to perfect it. Must come back later to copy off the recipes.
