Your Food Really Does Matter

I haven't actually finished watching this entire movie yet, but what I have seen of Food Matters has reinforced what I've believed for a long time: Your body is actually designed by God to heal itself (within His general will) and food makes a difference in how and if that healing will take place; generally speaking! I do believe God allows us to sometime experience an illness or disease for a specific reason and He can use it to glorify Himself, but for most of us, we're sick because of what we do to our bodies on a day in, day out basis.

None of us will add years to our life because God has numbered our days before we were ever born. However, could we add life to our years? I think most of us definitely could do so. And I confess, this last year, I've let quite a bit of "junk" slip back into my diet. Watching a movie like this is an excellent reminder and great motivation!

After watching the first portion, I admit that I'm not sure I agree with taking lots of vitamins, but hey, they're certainly better than lots of pharmaceuticals!

You can watch the entire movie instantly on Netflix or you can view it through the Food Matters website for a nominal fee. Let me know what you think!

*Due to my internet reception this weekend, comments may not post until later this weekend. However, please leave your thoughts and eventually it will show up under the comments. Thank you!

  1. Great post ! I believe that if you eat proper fresh foods you dont need to take vitamins you should get all you need from good food my mum was a true believer of that when I was raised on the farm and the food had to be free range not chemicaly fed ! I'll admit I was healthier then , then I am now as we all get caught in the food wars ! Have a wonderful day !

  2. i saw this movie. actually i made my husband watch it with me (he's not big on the whole going natural less chemicals in the house thing) and he thought some of it interesting. although he doesn't believe that pharmaceutical companies could truly stop a doctor from performing a cheaper and safer alternative. but he thought that before watching Pregnant in America, and seeing how other countries handle birth made him realize a bit more why having kids in a hospital scares me :-)

Hope you find the time watch the movie in its entirety because its honestly pretty good!

  3. I watched parts of this through the link you provided above. It looks really interesting and I'm sure very informative. Sometimes though I get so overwhelmed trying to figure out how to feed my family, what to eat, if we should cook it or eat it raw and how much can I buy organically. I know babysteps is the key to a healthier diet for us and we are making progress, but sometimes I'm still overwhelmed.
    Blessings,

  5. I will have to check this out - Food Inc was also a good movie that changed how I thought about food. Or, more precisely, how I wasn't thinking about my food until I saw the movie.

  6. Hi there,

I was poking around another blogger's site and came across yours. Thank you for putting up that video link - I have been interested in eating healthy for some time but like a lot of people, my ideas are different than the next persons. I am very interested in watching this video and will have to find it on netflix. Thanks again for a great post!

  8. Everytime I watch a clip like this one or from Food, Inc. or Fresh...it just re-affirms that we need fresh vegetables, good protein, and fruit...
I only wish I had planted more in my own little garden this year!

  9. Amy, I saw this movie months ago and it was a real eye-opener. I do think the emphasis on vitamins is a bit much. I think vitamins are best used as a treatment for illness (along side eating right) but healthy eating and living should be our preventative medicine. Anyway, those are my thoughts on it. It's a really good documentary though. I recently watched Colony. Have you seen that one? It's also on Netflix.

  10. Oh also, there is a bit of a push for veganism. I don't remember for sure if they directly say it but there are a few of the interviewed vegans. I watched an (not Food Matters) entire documentary only to find out at the end that the Gerson diet is a vegetarian diet. Charlotte Gerson is one of the teachers in Food Matters. David Wolfe is also a vegan I think. Anyway, I just thought I would warn you about that part. It's still a good documentary.

  12. Amy.

Thank you for such a wonderful post that provided a much needed inspiration for my spirit this morning! Our food indeed is quite important component in our over all health but recognizing the higher principles that are also in play are, unfortunately too often forgotten. The sentence that rang clear and true for me was, “None of us will add years to our life because God has numbered our days before we were ever born. However, could we add life to our years?” Thank you for sharing that. Here’s to you experiencing a wonderful time camping.

  13. Uh I'm currently in the middle of the lane when it comes to going to the Dr and following through with pharmaceutical prescriptions / and going the natural homeopathic route. To add to the mix I have strong christian convictions that Jesus is my healer if I get sick. It's a touchy subject with many. This looks like a good flick. I'm gonna netflix it in my que.
